A tragic scene unfolded Friday morning at Del Mar Park in Aurora as authorities responded to reports of a deceased person discovered in the park’s wooded area along the 12000 block of East 6th Avenue.
The Aurora Police Department has confirmed that the incident appears to be a suicide involving a middle-aged man, and there are currently no indications of foul play. “Based on the investigation, we have determined that this was a tragic, self-inflicted event,” APD stated in an official release. The Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office has taken over the investigation to determine the man’s identity and exact cause of death.
According to witnesses, the man was found hanging from a tree early Friday, prompting a large police presence in the area. Several residents expressed concern on social media as word of the incident quickly spread.
One local posted, “My prayers go out to the family and the young man who was found today at Del Mar Park. People don’t understand how heavy life can be sometimes. It makes my heart hurt seeing something like this happen, and it makes it even worse to see people sharing the video. Please just let him rest in peace.”
Another person shared a description of the scene, writing, “They found a young Hispanic male — green hoodie, grey pants — hanging from a tree at Del Mar Park. Check on your people. Share.”
The police emphasized that there is no threat to the community and reassured the public that “any loss of life in our community is a tragedy and will always be investigated to its utmost to determine if criminal behavior is involved.”
Officials are urging the public not to circulate any images or videos of the incident out of respect for the victim and their family.
